Churchill Crew culminated its second spring season on May 12, 2012, at the Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Rowing Championships at Thompson Boat Center in Washington, DC. The team competed in a number of events against more than a dozen area teams in a 1500-meter course along the Potomac River.

Churchill Crew’s Womens 4+ Varsity boat swept the finals, outperforming boats from Seton, Walter Johnson and Holton Arms. “The girls raced very well,” says Churchill Crew women’s varsity coach Cindy Cole. “They executed the race plan perfectly—they started strong, held on to their competitors, and then slowly walked through them to win with a commanding lead.” The girls were presented with a trophy by Swedish Ambassador Jonas Hafström (who attended the regatta, which took place in front of Georgetown’s dramatic House of Sweden).

Among the team’s other top races, Churchill’s Men’s Novice 4+ came in second in its heat, outperforming a boat from Walter Johnson.
